Day 1194: No Duct Tape?

AJC.com’s 2008 Holiday Guide offers tips on time- and money-saving gift packaging and shipping options. General packing advice includes: “Seal the box on all seams with packaging tape, not duct tape, masking tape or cellophane tape. Packages wrapped in paper or tied with string are no-no“s.”

No duct tape? No duct tape?! This reminds me of a great snippet from The Red Green Show.

The look on Red’s face when told by the hardware store that duct tape is on back order for two weeks was a lot like mine when I came home after voting on November 4th and realized that we didn’t have enough Duct Tape for Democracy*

Me: “No d-d-d-d-duct *sniff* t-t-t-t-ape?”
D: “Maitri, hold it together!”
Me: “Hold it together with what?”

Feh. As Uncle Red always says, “You can fix anything with bailing twine, chicken wire and duct tape.”

*After we were done voting, poll commissioner friend Ellen asked if we would bring her back some duct tape for use at the precinct. Whatever the cost she would reimburse us. There was no way we were going to accept money from Ellen for something like duct tape. The duct tape – it wants to be free. Ellen laughed and said we could write it off as Duct Tape For Democracy. D made an early-morning Walgreens run for a fresh three-pack of duct tape and order was restored to the world.
