Day 725: CNBC Squawk On The Street

Did anyone catch the New Orleans business segment on CNBC’s Squawk On the Street show this morning? I caught bits and pieces of the hosts talking with Jimmy Delery and Kim Quillen of the TP, as well as one other woman whose name escapes me. They discussed problems associated with the rebuilding of affordable housing in New Orleans since interest rates and insurance are so high, and the Catch-22 of not being able to get working renters back into the economy if housing is not available to them.

Meanwhile, our mayor wants New Orleans residents to magically evict themselves from their FEMA trailers ASAP while they still wait on their RoadHome and FEMA money, new construction costs are high, existing good homes are torn down, our local paper merely claps its hands and says OohAah at the Corps’ latest pump test and our crime rate is through the roof, but even Mark Fiore knows that’s “our brand.”

Where and how are current trailer residents going to live?  How will New Orleans be repopulated by those in exile and newcomers?

Two years from Katrina/Flood, this city still needs all the help it can get. That’s why we’ve got to keep the tide rising, y’all.
