Sorry if it took until almost 2 in the afternoon to get this conference live-blogged for you from the “inimitable” Maitri perspective, but I had to sacrifice my computer for the morning series of talks, especially Tim Ruppert’s great talk on levee protection and Matt McBride’s webcast on the status of our pumps from out of state. The day has been great so far. Even Ashley Morris admitted that the day has gone pretty smoothly so far. Famous last words. He has doomed the rest of the conference for us, hasn’t he? Kidding.
Right now, Leigh Checkman introduces our keynote speaker, Dave Zirin, author of Welcome to the Terrordome. Zirin writes about the collision of sports and politics. He’s speaking now, and his charisma already makes it a laugh a second followed by a one-two punch to the gut.
“Nowhere was the collision of sports and politics more gruesome than in August 2005 when the levees broke.”
More on Zirin’s talk in my next, which is so entertaining and educational that it will probably just have to be watched in its entirety. Keep checking back, folks.
