My newest friend and fellow New Orleans blogger, Karen Gadbois, is the mind behind Northwest Carrollton, the online voice of a portion of Uptown on the far side of the Crescent from the French Quarter.
Aside from her duties as a parent and homeowner in a part of town that flooded, Karen toils nonstop for her neighborhood and its rejuvenation. She attends meetings, posts to the NW Carrollton web publication everyday (several times a day, sometimes), takes pictures, makes sure her community’s voice is heard and puts food on the table. On top of all this, she is unafraid: never a cringe from asking the difficult questions, emailing or calling anyone to get to the heart of the matter and, even worse, legalese.
Karen is the mother I hope to be some day, setting an example for my children that community activism and family life are not mutually exclusive. In fact, communication and cooperation with neighbors make for a happier individual and family.
One of the things New Orleans does best is community – e pluribus unum, cher!
You’re doing a great service for the city and people you love, Karen. We can only hope that our elected officials are as dedicated and true. (Keep dreaming, right?)
we were heard..now i am going to sleep..you made me blush, and I needed a good pat on the back. Thanks
Yeah, Karen rocks my world too.
