Day 948: Rest In Peace, Ashley Morris [Updated]

Update: Through waves of grief, Hana Morris is being extremely brave while managing the fallout and her household, with help from friends and neighbors. Please send the Morris family thoughts of strength and peace at this time. A benefit and PayPal fund are now in the works. Details will be posted once they are finalized.

Ashley Morris passed away this morning. Geek, educator, blogger, musician, but more importantly, husband, father and a great friend of New Orleans, is gone. I’m going to miss you, Professor Morris, you were a big man in so many ways.

It is needless to say that Ashley’s death is a huge blow to the New Orleans blogger community, but this is also where our community can be at its best. By helping its own. What Ashley would want is that we are there for his wife and three small children. Let us be at their service.

Ashley with Warren Zevon:

Rest In Peace, Ashley Morris

Enjoy every sandwich.

Here is what Ashley asked for when he helped us out with maps…nothing

    He never asked for anything.

He gave us a lot of love, there it was all for the taking.

Dammit, dammit. I said it at Shecky’s – why couldn’t it have been the schmuck in City hall or somebody else?

    This is such a shock.

I can’t stop thinking of the kids. We have to help Hana with them, Karen and Liprap.

    I just don’t have the words….

My condolences go out to his family and the NOLA blogoshpere.

Maitri, please let me know if/when there’s any kind of donation or memorial fund set up. I want to let the folks who knew Ashley via our Wire blog know so they can donate in his memory – he had a ton of friends in that community.

My condolences to all of you who were fortunate to have known him in person.

Oh God. Not Ashley! Better people are nowhere to be found.

Yes, please let us know if there are any memorial fund plans. Whether to help the family, if needed, or perhaps to endow a scholarship for children of NOLA in his name.

Maitri. Since I know you have those mad organizing financial skillz please let me know what kind of thing will be set up to help Ashley’s family.

When people around the country want to help we can’t bring over casseroles but we want to show our support for those left behind and to honor Ashley’s memory. When my dad died last month Interrobang asked people to send me Virtual Casseroles in the form of paypal contributions and some people did. It was just such a touching gesture and I appreciated it greatly. If something like that gets set up please let me know. Ashley’s family should know that his words touched people around the country.
As I said to a few folks “F*ck you, you f*cking f*cks.” Wasn’t just legendary in the NOLA blogosphere, it was legendary in the entire left blogosphere. I rarely swear and don’t even like to write the term, but sometimes it’s just the thing. He used it with skill and power.

And I’ll take this opportunity to wish YOU well. Take care of yourself.
    LLAP,
    Spocko

I know that you’re a blessing to Hana and the kids at this time. Along with Ashley’s family, you remain in my thoughts and prayers every minute.

DEFINITELY. Broadcast it loud and long. It can be a real lift to the spirit of the family knowing how a loved one touched so many lives.
