When did the Bible and the belief in Intelligent Design become “scientific data?” This is what happens when language is stolen and used absurdly to further personal ambition.
2TheAdvocate.com:Author denies bill lets creationism slip into schools
With Democrats like this, who needs Republicans?
Sen. Ben Nevers, D-Bogalusa and sponsor of the bill, said Monday that it would be unfair to label his bill as one that would pave the way for the teaching of creationism ” the view that life began about 6,000 years ago in a process described in the Bible“s Book of Genesis.
The “both sides of scientific data” comment continues to assault the scientist in me. I can’t get over it.
I believe that students should be exposed to both sides of scientific data and allow them to make their own decisions, Nevers said Monday.
Oh no, this bill isn’t about introducing religious beliefs in science classrooms. Not at all.
… Nevers said he was asked to sponsor the bill by the Louisiana Family Forum, which describes itself as a group that promotes traditional family values. Gene Mills, executive director of the group, said a bill is needed that makes it easier for teachers to delve into criticism of Charles Darwin“s theory of evolution.
The bus is already leaving Louisiana, don’t give it more gas. How about we succeed at teaching students basic chemistry, physics, genetics and anatomy before jumping ahead to theories?
Scientific data doesn’t have sides. It just is; it supports some ideas and it contradicts others. What’s interesting is that while one can of course find data that suggests that evolution, as we understand it, is not a perfect description of the actual processes taking place around us, I’ve yet to see any that suggests that religious creation myths are.
As for intelligent design, that’s not so much driven by data but by figuring out a point at which one says, “Damn, I can’t figure it out – it must be G– I mean, the Designer!”
