Firefox can’t find the server at www.nhc.noaa.gov … The server at nhc.noaa.gov is taking too long to respond. Why does this remind me of when D and I were eating dinner at the Zea’s on St. Charles bar this evening because our central AC went kaputz late last week, and right as I asked out loud if we could stay there for the next 30 minutes to stay cool while I watched the remainder of the L&O re-run, the power went off and the alarm started to blare? It was so hot in New Orleans this evening we had an India-style brownout. I didn’t even have to purchase a $1200 airplane ticket and fly into Meenambakkam for the experience. Awesome. Update: Just got back from running an errand, and the power is still out for major chunks of Central City and the Lower Garden District, mainly around St. Charles, Jackson and Prytania.

My FireFox is getting through to NHC.
Your power failure tonight sounds much like the 7th, Marigny and Bywater Saturday night. Could Entergy be cycling between areas to cover up their lack of coverage for the city?
Yes, the power was out in the LGD for over 4 hours – from 6-ish to 10:30 last night. Good times! Entergy didn’t give any explanation when I called, but I heard the same Bywater/LGD rolling blackout hypothesis from a neighbor who was there for that outage. I lived in Cali back in the days of rolling blackouts, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a similar thing is happening here.
