Read Jeffrey’s detailed post on the hyper-local mechanics of politics and elections in Louisiana, more particularly in New Orleans before the upcoming Jefferson-Carter runoff.
[The] turf battle between competing local machines grasping to remain in power amongst a rebuilding, scattered, and unpredictable electorate is the heart of what this race is about. Everything else is a superficial externality.
Whatever the outcome, Jeffrey’s post gives the national audience a way not “to draw ugly, inaccurate, and self-serving conclusions.”
That said, there are questions: Will the exposure of the diaspora to a new way of life and outside systems of politics have an effect on diluting the New Orleans mindset? And, like my out-of-state relatives and friends ask: Don’t you think Katrina, the flood and slow rebuilding would have steered local politicians away from modern tribal warfare?
Even if we are not considered Americans, let’s think of ourselves as New Orleanians by arming our district with a credible emissary. Carter is no dame in shining armor, but even a BOLD princess is better than loose change in the freezer, suspicions of money laundering and No Ways & No Means.

The Packers aren’t playing until Monday night. What’s Ms. Sleepy to do now?
OK…I got a text message and had no clue from where it came…
No turkey at my vegetarian family’s home in the OH. Lots of good Indian food, though! Yogurt is also a source of tryptophan. Will someone please fax me a daiquiri?
Wait, wait, don’t, I think the lactose intolerance just set in.
