My good friend, R (known to some of you as txyankee), contributes to Merry Thanksgivoween, a “blog about the over-commercialization of the Christmas/Yule/Solistice holidays in the US and other parts of the world.”
Lately, those of us who watch TV have been subject to Christmas carols in ads, and it seems like the phenomenon arrives earlier and earlier each year. Well, one of these TV commercials, I don’t remember which one, plays “Here Comes Santa Claus” in the background. You know how it goes:
“Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus lane.”
In my head, however, the jingle continues like this, long after the commercial is over:
“Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus lane. Tusk! Give it away, give it away, give it away now! Give it away, give it away, give it away now! I’ve got a pair of brand new roller skates, you’ve got a brand new key. Tusk!” [Link]
Thank you, better television, for corrupting the youth of America. May you live long and prosper! Come on, everyone, sing with me: Tusk!
So perhaps we should celebrate Festivus!!
Peace,
Tim
