It was on ABC that, five years ago, I watched as a plane flew into the second tower and thought, “It has finally come to America. I wonder how the people of this country are going to deal after finally becoming a part of this ongoing global war.”
In other words, I want to see “The Path Away From 9/11.” The Rs and Ds fight over what is fact, fiction and improper in the contents of this upcoming ABC mini-series, which according to the Clinton administration “includes made-up scenes depicting them as undermining attempts to kill Osama bin Laden.” Who cares? While arguing over the rewrite of history, we ignore the fact that … NEWSFLASH … THIS JUST IN … this nation is currently undermining attempts to kill Osama bin Laden.
No one describes it better than Eugene Robinson:
President Bush said that the uncovered conspiracy is “a stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation.” If only the president would fight that war. If only he hadn’t turned away from the hunt for bin Laden to chase his neocon advisers’ delusions of spreading pro-American democracy at the point of a gun.
If only America would kill Osama bin Laden now. Now. NOW. Not in the past. Not three years from now after we stop mollycoddling Pakistan. Now.

I read the Senate report this morning in the paper. It seems that not only did Bush become distracted in the hunt for Bin Laden, but he “took out” one of the few leaders in the region who was also fighting Bin Laden’s terrorist network. Good grief. It’s so tragic!
