Day 345: Discipline, Thy Name Is A Book

I haven’t read a book cover to cover since I finished Wicked: The Life And Times Of The Wicked Witch Of The West a couple or so months ago.  Utterly perplexed by the unbecoming end of that book, I put it away cursing myself for yet again getting attached to reading material and being let down in the end.  This is why partly-read works like American Cassandra, How The Universe Got Its Spots, The System Of The World and The Prize languish on my coffee table and at my bedside.

Mock me for saying it, but lately, television’s Jeopardy, Monk, Psych and Classic Arts Showcase, Netflix and sleep seem more forgiving companions.  Like the body lets you know when it lacks an essential nutrient, my brain pushes me in the direction of down time.

You’re not the only one having a hard time being focused enough to finish a book. I usually read at least a book a week and I’ve finished maybe 6-7 books post-K. My long term memory is wobbly right now.

Blair, the funny thing is that I read books during NFL commercial and half-time breaks.
