Day 317: Bombs Rock Mumbai

Mom’s out of her successful surgery and sleeping off the anesthesia.  This is a good thing for she may fall down or hit the roof on hearing that almost 200 Mumbaiites were killed by a series of seven explosions on “crowded stations Tuesday evening [morning here] in this Indian financial capital.”

What is continuing to happen to this world?  Will violent a$$holes stop at nothing in their quest for “moral superiority” and power?  Do you consider yourself powerful by doing this, you weak-minded barbarians?  Anyone can destroy.  True power comes from creation and growth.  What have you made but more misery?  For this, no one will heed your cause.  No one.  Not even your god.

Sepia Mutiny and Metroblogging Mumbai are doing a great job of staying on this story as it grows in leaps and bounds.  147 200 dead – many, many more injured (439 700 as of last count).  SM’s Anna reminds us of the great need for blood after horrible incidents like this and urges you to read the Mumbai Help blog for resources and updates.

Here is a Google mash-up showing the locations of the blasts, the bombs planted in a straight line from the northern tip of the larger peninsula to the south.  The southernmost tip of Mumbai (famous monuments – busier and more touristy) remains safe – security must be heightened there.

I hope fellow Vatul and blog-girl, Harini, and my brother’s friends are alright.  Speaking of Mumbai bloggers, Harini and Peter Griffin were quite helpful to us after The Storm/Flood with the Katrina Help blog.  Their team is back in action:

Red Herring: Blogs help ease Mumbai crisis

At least 30 Mumbai-based bloggers are collaborating on the community-based blog Mumbai Help to help the city through its latest crisis. The blog has traffic information, names of those suspected injured or missing, updates on the rail situation, help-line numbers, and information on how to text-message a cell phone using email.

“We have had more than 6,500 visitors in the last four hours, so obviously there’s not enough information out there, said Peter Griffin, one of the bloggers. We’re trying to help in ways that news agencies and the police can’t.

I am heartened to good news of the Mom Of Maitri! The rest, well….
Tragedy is a constant now, especially for New Orleanians. I am sorry to see it happen, but am losing the ability to be surprised anymore….
