Laissez les bon temps rouler!
I never made it to this parade, but I know it’s legendary, and will kickoff a great Mardi Gras! Have a great time.
On Tues, 01/18/06, I learned from the Times-Picayune that this year’s Krewe du Vieux king would be none other than Walter Williams… The tag line for the announcement was: “Oh Noooooo!!! The creator of Mr. Bill will lead the Krewe through the French Quarter under the theme ‘C’est Levee.'”
My immediate reaction/first thought was “I can’t NOT be there.” Within a hour’s time, I had the time off from work squared away and the plane ticket purchased. And I’m fortunate enough to have the kind of kind of friends who fight over the opportunity to take me in as a houseguest (enough of whom have returned to dig their heels in to breathe life back into the place where my heart lives).
As a former Marigny resident, this will be my first post-Katrina visit… The irony being that in August ’05 I’d realized I’d already been away too long, but backed off from the spontaneous visit I’d been daydreaming about. I have decided to focus on re-connecting with the Fahy’s family instead of playing the game of “What’s changed?”, at least to the best of my ability. Katrina taught me that it’s the people that keep NOLA singing in my blood; as my Grandma used to say, it’s time for me to “touch back.” Thanks to Krewe du Vieux for making the spark ignite!
As a proud member of the Fahy’s family, let me be the first to invite you back. Several in my subkrewe of KduV are Fahy’s “siblings,” too. See you there!
I’ll be staying with Pallas and her beau (if it’s a family, then she’s definitely my all-time favorite sister ;). We’ll likely be at Fahy’s after my arrival Thursday night (circa 11:30 PM), with repeat appearances anticipated on Friday evening and possibly Saturday after the parade/ball. Drop in at some point if you get the chance; meeting new family would be much appreciated!
(You may also see us at the ball… Got my fingers cross’d that I’ll be able to get three tickets on Friday!)
Fahy’s appearance definitely anticipated on Saturday night after ball! Man, I need my beauty rest!
