Thanks, Manish, you now have me scouring YouTube for Indian cinema music from my parents’ generation. It turns out high-budget Tamil films from the 1950s and ’60s weren’t above sprinkling their song lyrics with “baby” and “doh-ling,” either. Yet, I can hear my mom already, “Indian movie music of that era was so much more decent and subtle in its suggestions than the shameless dancing and jumping and skin showing of today.”
