Day 1019: Water Water Everywhere

Hometown of compadre and VatulBlog commenter, Julie, sits in the path of the recent Midwestern rains.  I-94 by Johnson Creek reopened yesterday after water from Rock River flooding left the highway.  Minnesota and Iowa are being pummeled again right now and it will be Wisconsin-Illinois-Indiana’s turn to take another beating tomorrow.  Adventurers that we are, D and I plan on flying right into it.

The standing water from the simple rains we experienced here in New Orleans last evening came up to the bases of some cars on Magazine Street.  You can imagine the effect of more such rain or a tropical storm or two.  Furthermore, all that rain up in my Northern homeland is heading down here.   Are we prepared to go through the Spillway Exercise again during hurricane season?

The latest from Matt McBride states that he is investigating whether “the permanent pump stations at the [New Orleans] lakefront would be delayed even further than their current 2012 completion date.”

Yet, I’m dehydrated.
