Day 946: WordPress 2.5

VatulBlog now comes to you via WordPress 2.5.

Thus far, I am underwhelmed by the new dashboard because it is powered by widgets. So what if I can customize some aspects of the WordPress interface to my feng-shui liking if something as simple as the Insert/Edit Link window doesn’t work? (Update: The form works in Mozilla Firefox, but populates with absolutely nothing in IE6.) Incidentally, during the upgrade, it took three FTP uploads of the edit-form-advanced.php file before extended post options would show up on the Write Post form.

A few nice additions: Full-screen WYSIWYG editing is cool; it allows you to concentrate on writing.  Posting also allows the creation of a post which contains a thumbnail gallery.  Clicking on each thumbnail takes you to a sub-post.

Some more tinkering is in order. If I am not used to this “wordy” interface in a week’s time, I’m going back to 2.3.3. Thank goodness there are no security patches associated with 2.5.

Just make sure that nothing absolutely vital is in the upper left portion of the screen. Feng-shui-wise, that’s supposedly where your wealth is.

For example, if your bathroom is in the back left side of your home in relation to your home’s entrance, it might explain why you are having money troubles. To paraphrase Olympia Dukakis in “Moonstruck”, your whole life might well be going down the toilet…

I was actually talking about the Admin interface, but the feng-shui may explain why the Packers went down the tubes. Wait a second, then why did the Saints, too, and worse?

I guess it depends on what the main entrance to Lambeau or the Dome is…but then they ALL have bathrooms circling the playing areas, pretty much…perhaps crucial ones weren’t working at the time?

Now we need a feng-shui expert to come in and analyze this.

Hey, you’re a top Google result for “wordpress 2.5 insert/edit link”. I’m stuck with 2.5 for a client project, and OMG, what a fucking train wreck. I can’t get the insert/edit link form to work in Firefox for Windows OR Mac, or Safari or Camino on a Mac.

I’m really not sure how we’re supposed to later turn this over to a client for them to do their blogging if they can’t do such incredibly advanced things as insert a link into a post.
