Here is a picture I recently took. Without clicking on it (as it leads back to my tag-heavy Flickr site where you will find the answer), tell me whether it was taken in Venice or New Orleans, and why. Soon enough, I will post something about the coincidence of port cities, Catholicism, cultural heterogeneity, the fusion of ethnic practises and the institutionalization of fun.

I know! I know! Pick me, pick me!!!!
Venice…Why? Not enough purple and gold.
Has to be Venice, because they’re mannequins. In New Orleans, Carnival is celebrated by real people.
But seriously, I can’t tell. I suppose I would guess New Orleans, because all the pictures I’ve seen of Carnival in Venice look very formal and severe and kind of scary.
Definitely Venice. They don’t look happy enough to be in NOLA.
I vote Venice.
