What I’ve learned this week:
* Mayday comes from m’aidez
* My applause for the FCC when it comes to the proposed XM-Sirius merger may be mistaken. More tenuous partnerships have been ratified by this government agency, yet “Wall Street is ratcheting down expectations that XM and Sirius will gain approval from the Justice Dept. and the Federal Communications Commission for their planned $13 billion transaction.” Smells like a fish, but only time will tell.
* I may have jilted the old-fashioned incandescent lightbulb too soon. It also appears I’ve come across the first instance of “environmentalists and the Wal-Marts of the world” on the same side about an issue. Marketing makes strange bedfellows.
How much money does it take to screw in a compact fluorescent light bulb? About US$4.28 for the bulb and labour — unless you break the bulb. Then you, like Brandy Bridges of Ellsworth, Maine, could be looking at a cost of about US$2,004.28, which doesn’t include the costs of frayed nerves and risks to health.
