Allstate to reinstate policies
Customers will now be reinstated retroactively to the day their coverage was terminated, and Allstate is required to reimburse customers if they were forced to buy other insurance while they were waiting to be reinstated.
… People who received cancellation notices from Allstate should send to the company by April 30 proof they have fixed or are fixing their homes: building permits, 2007 utility bills, contracts with builders or receipts for building materials.

Nagin denies racial intent in his speech
While Nagin was emphatic about what he did not say, or intend, in his Washington speech, it was slightly less clear precisely what he did say. The news conference revolved around semantics and the parsing of a speech that few in the room had heard.
… “I thought it was more of a class issue than a race issue,” he said Monday, adding: “Now, racial aspects are obviously in everything we do.”
In the following quote, does Nagin reference Forman or Couhig? More about this at Jeffrey’s perspective on the topic.
… “They basically said, ‘Well, I ran because so many people were dispersed, and this was my best shot,” he said. “Not necessarily that most of the black people were dispersed, but New Orleanians were dispersed. Now, disproportionately, more African-Americans were dispersed than anybody.
If there is indeed substance to Nagin’s rambling, why so obtuse and why call foul now? The lack of straightforwardness aside, this is the latest Deflect-o-thon while the real issues are shoved farther under the rug.
