Day 445: Head For The Hills!

EJ is not amused by this development: Idaho town asks residents to own guns.  “Didn’t we settle this whole ‘refugee’ thing on August 30th?”, he asks.

Ordinance 208, passed by the [Greenleaf, Idaho] Council on Tuesday, asks [the town’s] 862 residents who do not object on religious or other grounds to keep a gun at home in case they are overrun by refugees from disasters like Katrina.

“This is not an ‘it’ll never happen here kind of thing,'” said Steven Jett, the ordinance’s sponsor. “We could get refugees.”

… Jett, whose father died in a hunting accident, said the ordinance is designed to enable residents to protect themselves, but it also gives the city a better platform from which to promote gun safety.

[emphasis mine]

Aaah, non sequitur, my old fallacious friend, I have missed thee.

It will never happen there.  The poor logic and geographic unlikelihood of their reasoning aside, would they shoot everyone seeking refuge in their town?  Is this good Quaker hospitality at its finest?  Also notice that Steven Jett’s father was not killed by a New Orleanian refugee overtaking the town, but in a hunting oops.  On second thought, perhaps each Greenleaf household should own at least one gun.

I can just see “the crackheads and the thugs” jetting to this far-west suburb of Boise for their fixes and … errr … thuggery.  There are at least 88 members of the Katrina diaspora in Boise and they need some of the fine drugs the people of Greenleaf are on.

As a former resident of Idaho, I can say two big things to them: 1) they all already own guns. My department chair had a carry permit, and carried a pistol to class. 2) FYYFF.

I hope the city council doesn’t see this, they might want to pass an ordinance 208 here. Could you imagine every person in this city owning a gun? It would be mayhem, I’m with you give me some of what they’re on.

I lived in Idyhoo for some time ages ago. Definitely the last place on earth I’d evacuate to.

And I’m with Ashley on this: FYYFF!
