The talented Ms. Homan treats us to her second Katrina movie retrospective – life in New Orleans from the eyes of an 11-year-old. This 30-minute feature, filmed by Atlas, is wonderful, just like the one from six months ago.
K’s turning pro at this documentary thing. I teared up at the sight of her mother, Therese, locked in a long hug with a close friend who was forced to move to Houston after Katrina. The young moviemaker also takes us through the innards of Thurgood Marshall school which “is haunting, like a moment in time … these kids were all in school on Friday, August 26th. Three days later, their lives changed forever.” Tell me that doesn’t hit you right in the sternum.
Yours Truly features halfway through the movie, once again proving how far good editing can go. I am equal parts honored and horrified to know that Kalypso considers me “one of the smartest people” she knows. Girl, you’ve got to meet more people.
Without further ado … watch the movie and tell everyone about it!
