Day 717: 60 Years Post-Whitey

60 Years Since The Colonists Were Kicked Out

Yesterday marked 60 years since India gave the Brits the boot, but I was too freaked out by Dean to notice (even now, this bleeding GFDL trend has me quite distracted, and I wish it were updated since moving closer to the Caribbean isles).

Here’s a bit of trivia on India’s national anthem:

The song Jana Gana Mana, composed by Rabindranath Tagore, was adopted by the Constituent Assembly as the National Anthem of lndia on 24 January 1950. It was first sung on 27 December 1911 at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress. The complete song consists of five stanzas.

NPR did a good job covering the 60th birthday of neighboring Pakistan, especially in this segment on increasing media freedom in the religious republic.  Fasi Zaka is one of my new favorite media personalities.  [Imagine my glee this  morning when CNN news segued from Kiran Chetry to Sanjay Gupta to Ali Velshi.  Desis represent!  Today the media, tomorrow … the media.  Don’t expect an Indian-American president in the next 200 years.]
