Day 690: Cheers, Lou!

Tales Of The Cocktail Salutes Lou Giglio

D and I met Lou a few years back at a friend’s housewarming party in MidCity, not far from the Fairgrounds. Lou lived in the condo upstairs and came down to be neighborly, although the party was littered with loud twenty- and thirty-somethings. No one knew who he was other than he was Lou, nor did he tell us. Later in the evening, the party narrowed down to a group of giggling girls, wasted young guys, and Lou and D. So, the two men struck up a conversation and found out that they were both liquor connoisseurs – D of single-malt scotch and Lou of every distilled alcohol under the sun and, well, Southern Comfort. D told me later that he’d tasted some really good scotch and whiskey at Lou’s that night.

Lou was to be found at every big SoCo shindig, whether at Mardi Gras or Jazzfest, and made sure that we were always treated with hospitality and care by his staff. Always. Truly, I’d have to live ten lifetimes to make up for his welcoming and convivial nature. The last time we saw Lou was at a Mardi Gras balcony on Bourbon St., when he was quite unwell and had to leave early. He died last October.

Let’s raise a virtual glass of Southern Comfort to this great man. Lou, wherever you are, I hope it’s the New Orleans of your dreams.

I came across this through google. I don’t know who you are but I would like to thank you for your kind words about my father. I may have met you as I was with him for his last Mardi Gras. He was an amazing man and is still missed everyday. Thank you again for this little blurb :)

    Cheers,
    Gina
