USAToday: Halliburton Move Shows Future Of Oil

“It’s the most visible manifestation that North America is a maturing business, while regions like the Middle East, Latin America and Asia are ¦ the future of the oil and gas business … The thought of energy independence (for the USA) is going to be pretty tough to achieve.”

… Halliburton said it would maintain its Houston headquarters, where all other senior executives will still be based, and not lay off any of the 4,000 employees there. The company also said it would not try to legally incorporate in Dubai, a move that would save hundreds of millions in U.S. taxes but set off a political firestorm.

… The Dubai news is the latest evidence of a U.S. oil industry that has been beefing up Middle East operations. Schlumberger, Halliburton’s chief rival, opened a research center in the region in the past two years, while Shell has dramatically expanded operations …
