Day 1095: Damn You, Gustav! [Updated]

August 29th, 2008 – finally a day off from work where I travel nowhere and can spend time by myself in quiet contemplation. Now, I have to take pictures of all of our stuff and gather the important items in Rubbermaid containers that fit in the back of the truck. All Just In Case We Have To Evacuate For Hurricane Gustav. This time, our tentative plan is to head straight up to Wisconsin, in order to avoid long waits in westbound traffic.

What a pain.

Dad thinks the storm will head to the Yucatan while Mom utilized her divine powers of prognostication to deem that it will come nowhere near us. This would make me feel better if we hadn’t used up all of our Storm Repulsion Karma over the course of the last two seasons.

All of you out there may be listening to Mahler, but we’re currently rocking Holst at VatulBlog World HQ. Here’s Jupiter – The Bringer of Jollity from The Planets suite. Jollity, indeed, because this five-day storm track is nothing if not jolly. Oh, rapture!

Update: You know what, I’m really stressed out right now while slowly preparing for a possible evacuation and do not need negative Twitterheads, people like Will Bunch and vile commenters at Daily Kos making my mood fouler. Democratic bloggers who think that the hurricane, if it comes here, will be “a potential nightmare for the Republican Party” are, to quote Adrastos, “the left wing equivalent of those wingnuts who want another big terrorist attack because it will help the ‘daddy’ party and hurt the ‘mommy’ party.” Listen up, stupid self-centered faux progressives, we are voters, citizens and humans, not your political lab rats!  More from HumidCity.

We have plenty of room for refugees. Welcome!

But..but..ever since a fantastic concert I once heard at the Church of St John the Divine echoed some beautiful Mahler around the space, I just can’t go for Holst. Sorry!

Too bad they always seem to land just east of the projected path… which puts it in line for New Orleans, not Morgan City. Outstanding.

    Good luck.

I nearly could not breathe when I read some things like that (it will hurt the GOP to have another disaster like Katrina and other things from both sides). It is almost as if they don’t realize its people who are harmed and could just as easily be them.

Know that some of us outsiders are just praying that all is safe. If you must evacuate, here’s crossing fingers that it is uneventful.

Good use of my line. Thanks. I was proud of that one. I, too, am tired of being a lab rat. That’s why I stopped answering post-K surveys some time ago.

Wolf Blitzer of CNN also brought this up during a panel discussion after Hillary’s speech. “O – this isn’t good for the Republicans that there is a hurricane coming that will likely make landfall on the Gulf Coast” He said it with glee. I am now done with CNN. People will lose property and some may lose much more, and people are making it political?

As an aside, Hillary would have smashed McCain in the general election – she would be up by 20% after that speech. Politics aside, I have gained a new found respect of Hillary – she’s a feisty one! Sisterhood of the traveling pantsuits – classic.

Oh… Maitri I am crossing my fingers (that’s all I really believe in, anyway) for you all.

Ryan, in that case you should stop watching Fox News, too, because New Orleans is a churning factory of homosexuals and should be destroyed by a God-sent hurricane, according to them. Stupid media, all of them, conservative and liberal.

    tamasha, thanks!

Hey – I hope that this thing dissipates and doesn’t hit anything but if it has to, hope it skips New Orleans.

I was interviewed for Channel 2 today – asking me if I was afraid of the storm. I said no. I don’t like the news stations spreading so much fear, uncertainty and doubt (and being so far inland, Baton Rouge is more likely to suffer from mass panic than the storm itself!!) I was hoping to bring balance to the force, but more likely they’ll make me look like the grasshopper to the ants who are stockpiling everything.

I hope you are doing okay out there though. I bet everyone in New Orleans is pretty stressed right now. Don’t read the blogs, especially Daily Kos, till this thing is over. Damn those who turn human tragedy into a vote for their party. >:(

I’m with you on your rant against silly Tweets, and am also hoping this dissipates, and that, if you do choose to listen to Nagin, you are not evacuated for very long.

    Dear southern Louisiana,

Listen to Bob Breck, not Mayor Nay-Gone. Do prepare, but do not commence the panic and mass evac now.

    Everyone else,

Thanks, I hope the storm dissipates or goes elsewhere that can take it better than New Orleans can right now. Hope for us! (To be honest, I am freaking out while the entire house is being measured for what can fit in the back of our truck.)
