Day 393: The Cradle Of Musical Culture

I lied, for I’ve made the time to watch the Saints on TV … in my black tank top with the gold fleur de lis on it. The sniffles began when The Goo Goo Dolls made a passionate case for New Orleans on WDSU, and they grew into all out tears when Irma Thomas sang the national anthem. Through his incessant supply of “you know,” Johnny Rzeznik managed to inform viewers that a lot remains to be done here, that New Orleans should be preserved with its spirit because it is the “cradle of musical culture,” and that the band will support this city on their website with videos of their visit here.

Holy Mother of Superdome, it hasn’t been a minute and a half and the Saints just scored a touchdown. They want it so badly, I can feel the desire through the little television over my computer.

Daaaaaamn, do I want to stay home and watch on TV while the city erupts? We are going to remember this game for the rest of our lives.

That does it: voodoo in the Dome!

Glad I’m not the only one who cried throughout the entire game! I started when the Goo Goo Dolls played and didnt stop until I drifted off to sleep after watching Benson dance around with his umbrella…..it was so incredibly emotional, even for those of us who cant be there. I cant even begin to imagine the feeling of being in the Dome or even in the city last night.

Maybe you’ll switch you allegiance to da Saints.

Allen Toussaint’s little flourish during the Anthem was another one of my little choke-up moments. What style.

The mood was wonderful at Fahy’s last night where some of us ended up to watch the game with someone other than our lone selves. Those who went to the game showed up after, and were SO happy. Listening to Joe Horn’s post-game comments was quite emotional.

I’ll never switch my allegiance away from the Packers, but it sure was nice to be a part of this miniature rebirth in the city that I so love. Hope this is a sign of better things to come.

I could feel the energy all through the city and wherever the NOLA Exiles are temporarily living. What a freakin’ rush!

And Kermit Ruffins, originally billed for the Anthem, was predictably late for the show. The great, secret New Orleans moment of the evening.

I think the Benson Automotive Group should make a banner ad where we get to put the sights on butt-shakin’ Benson and his parasol and open fire. Hell, I’d click that one. I couldn’t resist.

World Class recovery is the feeling that we all have this week.

A colleague of mine commented on how he didn’t actually win anything Monday. How ridiculous we are that we should celebrate a victory!

We are celebrating the victory that we all have in common.

In this day of media pressure to be white, black, Hispanic, gay, straight, young, old et alia, NO MATTER the walk of life

    We all have the Saints.

On the inside we have a smirk. People are not honking at delayed starts at traffic lights the way they normally would.

Productivity at work is up because of the spark that was struck Monday.

    Believe the hype.

    Our Community does.

I wish these people were at the intersection of Gravier and O’Keefe this morning, where the sounds of incessant honking and yelling drowned out the music from my car stereo. But, I saw a lot more new Saints bumper stickers and decals. Something to be proud of!
